“Attracting and Raising Purple Martins”

    Purple martin expert Donald Duncan from Harrisburg, Illinois, will present a seminar “Attracting and Raising Purple Martins” on Saturday, February 27, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. here at Plantscape. Because this is always a very popular seminar, we will offer two sessions this year to better accommodate those wishing to attend.  This is the sixth year Mr. Duncan will share his purple martin knowledge here at Plantscape.  Anyone wishing to attract purple martins or those with existing houses will learn valuable information such as migration, types of houses, how to attract purple martins, problems with predators, feeding habits, nest checking and support of the babies to fledgling.  Information from the University of Pennsylvania’s Ornithology Dept. will be presented including a slide presentation, and free packets of purple martin information from the Nature Society will be given to participants.  Mr. Duncan is retired from the U.S. Air Force and the Boeing Corporation and now raises over 550 new martins each year in 114 purple martin apartments!  Learn how you can also be a good landlord by joining us for a very informative seminar.  Call 942-4865 to register for either the morning session at 10:00 a.m. or the afternoon session at 1:00 p.m. so we will know how many people to expect.  Participants can register at the seminars to WIN a FREE hex 12 compartment purple martin house after the seminars.
